ram + apple care protection plan questions

my macbook:

1.83 ghz + 512 mb ram

i'm looking into buying more ram but dont know what brand i should get, how much it should cost, and how much i should upgrade. any ideas/websites that would be of use would be much appreciated

also, if i put in new ram, will it kill my apple care protection plan that i purchased?

You're not going to void the warranty of your Macbook by adding RAM to it. I still wonder where users get this bizarre idea. Would you tell me where you did? I'm doing some research on it now since it's a common misconception.

Thank you for your reason behind this belief. I'll make some sort of final report in the end. My suggestion for RAM is to get 2 GB of RAM from OWC. They're a well respected Mac component seller.
