Hi all,

just wanted to clarify something about Ram for the new iMac 27"

I was intending to buy from here ... the 16GB

http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.aspx?model=iMac (27-inch, Late 2012)

The iMac comes with 2 x 4GB sticks and 2 slots free, but should I avoid mixing 2x8GB and 2x4GB and configuring for 24GB?

Edit: If the answer is YES you should avoid mixing. then am I then better off buying an addition 2x4GB instead and going for 4 slots each with 4GB totalling 16GB. it would be cheaper and achieve the same.

thanks

p.s I dont see myself needing more then 16GB in the near future but if the options there and affordable then why not ( if only for future proofing/resale value).

We won't know the answers to your questions until Apple releases detailed memory specs for the systems and/or someone publishes benchmark results with various memory configurations.
