I am in a quandary...I want to upgrade the RAM in my MacBookPro4,1 "17in. late 2008". According to Apple's website and the RAM guide on this website it doesn't actually give a clear answer one way or the other on what capacity my computer will accept. In two different locations it conflicts with one another below you will see the screenie I took:

You can add two 4 GB memory modules for a maximum of 8 GB of memory. For best performance, fill both memory slots and install an identical memory module in each slot.

then:
4GB - MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.4/2.2 GHz), MacBook Pro (17-inch 2.4 GHz), MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2008), MacBook Pro (17-inch Late 2008)

So which is it? is it Max of 4 or Max of 8?
