I have a mid-2011 MBP that I upgraded to 8GB RAM (removed the 2-2GB modules it originally came with). I also am installing an SSD in my mid-2011 iMac 27". It currently has 4GB of memory (apparently 2-2GB modules). Since there are two empty RAM slots in the iMAC, is the RAM I removed from the MBP compatible with the iMAC? If so, I might as well double the RAM in the iMAC, right? In other words, any reason not to put the two 2GB RAM chips into the iMAC?

Both iMac and MBP use 204-pin DDR3 SO-DIMM RAM modules, thus the two 2 GB modules from your MBP will work in your iMac and give you 8 GB RAM.
