I know most people here would highly recommend buying 3rd party RAM. How much do you save and is it straight forward to install? I didn't mind the idea of just getting 4gb BTO but now I'm thinking it might be kinda crazy if its really marked up that much.

The current MBPs come w/ 2gb....is that 2x1gb sticks or 1 2gb?
Thanks

2x1gb

MBP BTO ram is what? 400 dollars? (or used to be, might be lower now)

retail its about $80

and yes its easy to install

$200 upgrade I believe.

So in the new machines it looks like the base Pro has the same ram as the last model (SO-DIMMs) but the higher end model has DDR3...does that make a huge difference?

All the new macbooks have ddr3, im sure all the pros will as well.

Apple ram cheap?

Maybe Im missing something but the 4GB ram for the new mbps (DDR 3 1066mhz) seems to be selling on newegg for about $150+, yet the 4 GB upgrade on apple is only 150. Isnt it better to just take the apple upgrade?

If you have you go through apple, you need to wait weeks. sucks. buy it third party and install yourself.

Are you sure about this? would upgrading the ram through apple (which is now at a very reasonable price) delay my order? it just seemsmore sensible touse the ram provided by apple if its at the same price (if not cheaper).
I personally have no problem replacing any parts (such as ram, hdd, etc), I just think the ram recomended by apple would e better
