I borrowed a 1GB stick of MBP RAM from work today. Put it in my PowerBook G4, works ok, no unexpected shutdowns. However, when I go to System Profiler and check out the memory, it shows the following:

SODIMM0/J20STANDARD 1GB DDR2 SDRAM PC2-4200S-444 OK
SODIMM1/J23REVERSED 1GB DDR2 SDRAM PC2-3200S-288 OK

The first (sodimm0) is the ram that came with my laptop. The second is the one I put in from work.

What is the difference between the 2? Is the second stick faster (4200 vs 3200)?

It's a difference in the bandwidth of the RAM. Here's a Crucial article about the specs. And CanadaRAM may be along any minute to give you the full scoop. :D
