Sold my mid 2011 iMac a while ago and now I'm selling the RAM I later bought for it at Crucial. Someone asked me if it will work for a 2013 iMac.

According to Apple support there's some differences: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3011?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

2013 iMac:
PC3-12800
(1600) DDR3
204-pin
SO-DIMM

2011 iMac
PC3-10600
(1333) DDR3
204-pin
SO-DIMM

Will it still be compatible? What about the original 4GB my iMac came with (I think they were Samsungs), will they work for a 2013 iMac?

Thanks a lot :)

It should work fine however because the RAM from the 2011 iMac is clocked at 1333MHz it will downclock the RAM from the 2013 iMac from 1600 to 1333MHz so that all are equal (this is assuming that the RAM is being added and not replacing the RAM that came with the 2013 iMac)

Thanks, what about if he only has those 16 GB in his new iMac? I've heard that it may not accept it.
