I took 4GB of 800MHz RAM from my iMac and want to give it to a girlfriend of mine to put in her white Macbook 2,1 2.16GHz. The bus speed in the Macbook is 667MHz and the RAM from the iMac is 800MHz.

Questions:
1. Will her MB recognize more than 2GB RAM? Maybe accept 4GB but utilize 3GB like my MBP 2,2.

2. If the MB will accept more RAM, will it accept this 800MHz RAM and only run at the bus speed of 667MHz?

1. that MB will only notice 3GB RAM

2. it will run at 667MHz because that is a limitation of the chipset. :)

You would be better off getting a 1 + 2 GB stick combo of the 677.

Never had luck in the long haul with ram being throttled down in this way, but others will say otherwise. Plus the cost of 677 ram is dirt cheap.

True, but I already have the RAM... took it out of my iMac, so for her it's free!

Or 1GB + 1GB. The positives of having matched pairs of RAM outweigh the positives of having more RAM.

Try and keep the frequencies the same. Will be better off than with mixed. Myself would rather have 2 GB matched vs 3 GB unmatched.

Right. I took the 4GB out of my iMac (2GB + 2GB, 800MHz) and am going to put that into the white Macbook.
