Hello guys! I have a 2.4GHz Intel Imac

I was wanting to upgrade the RAM to 3GB.

I realise the default Ram in the mac is a 1GB 667 MHz stick, the stick I was sold is a:

Geil 2GB 800MHz stick. I have not opened the packaging yet so that I can return it if it does not work.

Could someone please let me know if this stick will work successfully in my IMac.

Any help would be appreciated - cheers!

You can use faster RAM than the system supports, it will just throttle it down to the supported speed.

I didn't necessarily want faster RAM, its just what the guy at the store gave me, and not being an expert I took his advice, although to be honest he seemed to have far more knowledge of PCs than Macs which is why I am a little dubious.

but thank you for the input so far guys :)!

You can use faster RAM as long as its the right type but its a waste of money because the computer will automatically downclock it
