Hi,

having some trouble fitting some new RAM in my Mac Pro (early 2008) which takes upto 32GB of 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM RAM.

I have purchased 2 pairs of 4GB(16GB Total) and already had a pair of 4GB, a pair of 2GB, and a pair of 1GB installed(14GB total). So now I want to trash the pair of 1GB and add the new 16GB to create 28GB total.

However I cannot get this to work, which ever order I place the RAM in, it never shows the full amount? the most I have achieved is 16GB - by putting 8GB on the top board in slot 1 and 3 and mirroring on the bottom board, this made the fans work over time. SO i tried to fill in slot 2 on both boards with a 4GB module and this now shows as 8GB???? with 2 slots next to each other showing as installed.

I would even be happy trashing the pair of 2GB leaving 24GB if thats the only way.

Im lost at what to try next, but hoping that someone can shed some light.........
