Hi all,

Just purchased a 2020 iMac i7.
It came with the 8gb ram which i've removed & replaced with 2 x 16GB identical sticks now running in dual channel mode.
My question is whether it is an upgrade to add in the 8gb ram that came with the mac & have both sets of modules running in dual channel albeit at the lower speed or keep the high speeds & drop the dual channel functionality, or just keep the 32gb running high speed & dual channel...?

Hope this makes sense & appreciate any assistance since there seems to be much confusion or conflicting info out there....

Cheers
Neil

I found this post from @pldelisle very informative and useful on this subject - all the compatible memory modules are detailed in the first page of the post.
