*EDIT* Ok.. so 2 minutes after I posted this I plucked up the courage to just give it a good push (as I do when installing PC RAM) and it worked.. I was just nervous with it being my first Mac and all.

*EDIT 2* Didnt see the point in posting again but thanks for the speedy response anyway CanadaRAM :)

You are not pushing the module far enough into the socket before rotating it down to the horizontal. When properly inserted, there should be no or very little of the gold contacts showing. If you can see more than 1mm (1/32") of contacts, or if you can see more contacts on one side than the other, then it is not inserted correctly.
