So I own an old MacBook Aluminum, 2.0 GhZ 2GB RAM 160GB 5400 HDD.

What's the limit of the RAM i can put in it? I have seen some threads saying that 4GB is a limit, but not by hardware it's software. Can i crack/hack the system to mount more than 4GB?

Also I'm considering a SSD, probably 100GB-ish, not to expensive, but also good quality.

So if you can help me I greatly appreciate it :)

RAM: Up to 8GB, e.g. this

SSD: 120GB Intel X25-M is currently 200$ with MIR which makes it a pretty good deal, just wait for it to get back in stock. It may not be the fastest drive but has no issues with OS X.

wow $200 so expensive (._.) is there a similar version with lower capacity, will it be cheaper?

I'm confused, the manual book says that I can only mount up to 4GB

What will happen if i install 8GB?

Of course. The 80GB Intel isn't much cheaper though but there are plenty of 64GB SSDs that are cheaper.

4GB is the official limit set by Apple. However, 8GB has been tested and it works flawlessly, thus it is the unofficial limit.

lol i use more than 70GB on my current hard disk

hmm, does X-25's come in 80GB?

and thank you :) a confirmation of being able to use 8GB makes me happy :D

I know how to open the hard drive and reconnecting cables like that

but will it take some sandpaper or other similar grinding/cutting like that?

No no no, absolutely not. You just open the bottom and replace the parts, it is very simple.

ah, thank god :)

OOT: can i change motherboard/processor (i sound silly do i?)

You might be able to swap the logic board but to be honest, I've never seen any one doing it. You would be better off with a new MBP, it would end up being a lot cheaper too.

i was just wondering lol, i know that the price would be ridiculously expensive.

hmm, i will b installing the RAM first, then save up for a X-25 SSD (80GB)

thanks for the info everyone :D
