...had my Dual 1.8 G5 a few weeks now, moved up from a Dual 500 G4 - the difference still astounds me, amazing machine.

However my superdrive appears not be burning dvd's, it burns cd's fine but ten attempts of backing data up onto blank dvd's have failed both in toast and via the apple finder option.

Anyone had a similar problem? I don't have the time to take it back to the place I bought it from and be without it for a few days. A lacie porsche external writer seems the only option really.

And is anyone sickened at the prices for 3200 Ram? I'd love to have the Max of 4gb in this machine but it looks like I'll have to wait for a long time for prices to drop, especially as ever in the over priced and under stocked UK.

Thanks

Re: RAM Prices + DVD Burner not working...

What format of DVD blanks are you using, DVD-R or DVD+R?

RAM prices for PC3200 are near historic lows, although DDR has been creeping up in price in the last few weeks as the manufacturers switch capacity to making DDR-2.
1 Gb DDR PC3200 today is CAN$334, in April it was CAN$380, in July 2003 PC2700 1 Gb was CAN$508, Your country may vary, of course.

Sounds like a media problem if all ten DVDs were from the same pack. But if you used several different hi-quality brands then something is up with the drive probably.

What was the exact error Toast gave you? Did they at least start burning - and crap out near the end of the disc?

About the RAM prices, you just have to find a deal I guess - I got recently got 2GB for my Powerbook for about $400 CDN.
