Hey,

I bought a like new Early 2011 Macbook Pro 2.2Ghz w/ 8GB (Kingston Value RAM KT-MB1333/4G) few weeks ago off someone.

I was having trouble formatting the macbook, and every time I booted the osx dvd or boot from an external drive, there would be 3 beeps repeating stuck on the apple logo screen during start up.

I took it into Genius Bar, and they just reformatted it directly through there network cable, without using a disc. I still get the 3 beeps, and not able to boot off my external hard drive. I think it's faulty ram and its not the right one installed.

Now, what should I do to fix this issue?
I now want to order the 8GB kit from OWC.
Would the 3 beeps go away after the upgrade?

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Open it up, remove the RAM sticks and reseat them making sure they're snug.

I've already tried re-seating the memory and I still get the 3 beeps.
My macbook recognizes the 8GB's when I go to "About This Mac" and I can use it with the OS X Snow Leopard.
It's that just when I boot off a drive or want to format with a disc, it's still stuck at Apple logo screen repeating 3 beeps.

Looks like I'm going to order another 8GB ram kit from OWC.
I've been reading that the Kingston "Value Ram" is not good for macbooks.
