$50 seems quite a bit for just a 1gb DDR module. Check Activity monitor and see how much paging out you have. If you do have page outs then it is most likely that upgrading to 2gb will help.

Well, I have leopard on it now, and it is just to much for this machine. I have Tiger coming to me, but for now I am going back to Panther to see if that helps with Performance.

17" 1.5GHZ 1.5GB Ram. Everything is laggy with Leopard. Just went to Panther. Yeah, HUGE difference. They say that Tiger is the best OS for these machines.

Yeah, it really depends on what features you want. If Leopard doesn't have anything you want over Tiger, then it's a great switch back to Tiger. Personally, I like the features of Leopard too much to switch back to Tiger.

Yeah I liked Leopard over Tiger when I had my 1.33 G4 PB. It was maxed at 1.25gb and it ran just fine for what I wanted it to do. If you are not trying to run 18 apps at once or doing anything with HD video and flash then it will be a nice setup. I think with 1.5gb of memory, your CPU will be more of a problem then 500mb more memory.
