RAM Question

So, I'm thinking about getting a MacBook. However, I would probably swap out the RAM pretty fast (i.e: before I turn it on) Right now, I am typing this post on my white, late 2006 iMac. Could I plug the Apple RAM from the MacBook into the family iMac? It would be nice to have that performance boost.
