On my work computer, I have the standard 8gb ddr3 factory setup. I had two extra 4gb sticks from a mid-2012 MBP I updated. The sticks didn’t work, and I got the beeping when they were installed. I moved the existing sticks to those slots and tried the unused sticks in the previously used slots, and nothing worked. I tried the old sticks in the unused slots without anything in the old slots and nothing worked. Everything works fine with using the old/used slots the factory used.

So, I obviously have a memory slot issue, and it looks like that isn’t totally unheard of in this realm.

This machine is no longer under AppleCare. How much will it cost to have Apple repair the machine’s memory slots? What about an independent Apple certified tech?

I wouldn't pay to have the RAM slots "fixed" on a 2014 iMac.
It could turn out to be a VERY expensive repair.

Besides, if you put the original RAM back where it came from, does it work normally?

In that case try a DIFFERENT pair of DIMMS (NOT the 4gb DIMMs that gave you problems) before you decide that "the slots are bad"...
