I went through the ifixit guide. Checked and it only recognized one of the 16gb sticks. Any suggestions, retry the whole procedure?

My first guess is that one of the RAM modules is not fully seated in the socket. Try reopening it and make sure the RAM is pushed all the way down.

Did you turn on your Mac before you swapped RAM? Did it recognize both of the original modules?

Just to know:
- brand and model/part number of used memory sticks?
- are you sure that both sticks are working? (maybe one of the two is "faulty"?, did you try both the stick in just one slot? Or just "to invert" them?)

EDIT: I'm also wondering if a SMC/PRAM reset can be useful after a RAM upgrade...

Greetings and Merry XMas,

Thanks for your help. I did the surgery again, reseating. All good now
