I have a Late 2010 27" iMac with 12GB (2x4GB) and (2x2GB) of PC3-10600.
I stumbled upon 2x4GB of PC3-8500 and was thinking about swapping them for the 2x2GB.
A user on this forum said you could mix the RAM but the PC3-10600 would operate at 1066MHz. My question is should I install the RAM? Would it be slower or faster?

Like I said in the thread you linked, you can do this. However, all modules will be downclocked to 1066MHz. In real world apps, the performance difference will be negligible because the RAM bandwidth is not the bottleneck, hence go with the RAM if you need more than 12GB.

I guess he didn't believe you back in July. So here you go.

Hellhammer is right. For all practical purposes it will make very little difference.

Cheers,

Prices of 1066 and 1333 Mhz RAM is pretty much identical. You might aswell get 1333 and use the RAM you have to its full potential. But like Hellhammer said, you wont notice a difference.
