Can anyone tell me if the 32gb model is made up of two 16gb sets or one 32?

Trying to decide whether I spec a model as 32gb now or 16gb.

I'm Photoshop heavy...would like to be 64 GB once the aftermarket catches up.

It doesn't matter. You can't upgrade the RAM after you order. It's only changeable when you buy it. If you think you need 64GB, you better buy it now, because it's soldered onto the logic board. You WILL NOT be able to upgrade it in the future at any time.

You can't upgrade it yourself, so if you're reasonable sure you will need 64GB in the future then buy 64GB now or plan to replace the unit when that time comes.

64GB is a monstrous amount of RAM though. One person's "photoshop heavy" can be done on an 8GB system. Another person's "photoshop heavy" really is heavy. I would spend some time looking into macOS's memory management.

As others have mentioned, it can't be upgraded later. 32 still goes a long way though. If you are unlikely to actually use more than 32 for the next couple years, I wouldn't bother with 64.

Ok thanks Peeps, will assess then 32 vs 64....my 2011 rig was "easily" upgradeable which is why I asked.

It's arranged like 2x16GB, but as others have said the RAM is soldered to the board so it isn't possible to upgrade regardless. Get the amount you think you'll need now.

In my case that was 32 GB, the pricing for which Apple has marked up considerably. Makes me wish the user upgrades were still possible.

It's worth noting that the internal SSD is not even removable anymore so you'll want to order with the amount of storage you think you'll need apart from external drives for the life of the laptop.
