Hey everyone.
Just did a search through the threads and haven't found one relating to my situation. Apologies if this is something you've read and answered many times before.
I want to upgrade my ram in anticipation of the CS4 Production suite, as I'm already using most of my available ram with just Lightroom 2 and Photoshop CS3 open. I currently have 4gb installed on my first gen Mac Pro. The original 4x512 that came with the machine, plus 2x1 that I installed later, leaving one slot open.
At first I was going to get another 2x1 to bring the machine up to 6gb, but now I'm thinking I'd like to have 8 total. If I bought 2x2 to put in the last slot, would there be any concerns I should have about mixing that many different pairs?
I know that matched quads give a slightly better performance, but I only have two slots left, and don't want to get rid of any already-installed ram just yet. Also, moving up to 8 is about all I can afford right now, since I also want to bring my Macbook up to 4gb.
Thanks for any advice, and sorry for making this seem like an algebra test question.
