RAM usage - something has happened

my mbp would hog my ram down to 1gb, i have 16gb of ram.

recently it hasnt used over 8gbs of ram with the same peograms opened?

Open Activity Monitor, click on ALL processes, then on the real memory tab to show the processes which use the most RAM.

Unless you're experiencing page outs under normal workloads, you don't have to worry about or even watch RAM usage. OS X will manage RAM without user interference.

I was wondering if an update came out or something. My mac is managing the memory much better, I just think it's weird.
