Lately I've had a craving for Ramen. In the cup form I prefer the Beef Flavor of Nissin. In block I like oriental flavor. I also like the Ichiban Original I don't like the Maruchan brand as the noodles are too thick. Recently I took a trip to my Asian grocer and found rows of ramen.

So what flavors and brand do you prefer?

Any particular cooking methods or things you add?

Do you also crave 25% saturated fat and 1500mg of sodium? :p

Actually there is one brand of noodles I like, but it's written completely in Chinese. Small print says "Wanton Noodle Master, Lobster and Scallop Soup Flavored". It's hardly instant. You first have to cook the noodles in boiling hot water for 2 minutes. Drain. And then put the noodles with the seasonings in a bowl, and refill again with boiling hot water. Odd, but tastes 100x better than the instant noodle packages you find at most stores.

Nissin Oriental. The only kind that doesn't have any animal fat in it that I can get at a regular grocery store.

I have to agree with spicyapple... waaay too much sodium. Although, Spicyapple got the numbers mixed up. It's not 25% saturated fat, it's 7g of saturated fat which is 35% (in a 2,000 Calorie diet)...

Although, when I was in college... i did eat them all the time. I liked crunching them up in the bag then sprinkling a little bit of the flavoring on them, while eating the dry.

I Hate Ramen noodles. An insult to real Chinese cooking. (and by the way, I do lots of Chinese cooking).

It's the lazy man's way of getting a dose of faux Chinese food!

Only an insult to the Chinese since it's a Japanese dish. :p (OK so it was made instant by a Taiwanese who recently died, and may have originated in China, ...)

Fresh ramen from a japanese noodle shop can be quite tasty.

I really like Roast Chicken or Creamy Chicken, by the block. I don't like the cup ones, the block tastes better to me. I will often times cut up pieces of chicken and add it to the noodles. I like chicken as you can tell. I had chicken last night as well. Hey that rhymes!

Lately, I've switched from pre-packaged Ramen to Udon. The udon is so yummy! I like the thick noodles, YUM!

But when I have Ramen, I like the mushroom. It's usually the only veggie-friendly one at my supermarket. :(

I like to buy the frozen stir fry vegetables. You can get them for about 2 bucks if they aren't on sale. Oriental is my favorite, and ramen definitely tastes better with some veggies. Don't have a brand preference, although now I want to find a chinese grocer and see what I'm missing out on if they have aisles of the stuff.
