Question for battery experts:
With the optimised battery charging feature turned on on an iPhone/iPad/Watch, do you think it is better to charge it randomly throughout the day (or days) to avoid getting to let's say <20%, or just pick a fixed time when the device gets connected to charger regardless of remaining charge? Usually at night by most people, I assume.
Because it is not recommened to fully discharge li-on battery regularly, so ad-hoc charging based on remaining % makes sense, but at the same time the optimised battery charging feature needs to have a schedule to kick in, otherwise it won't wait with charging the device from 80% to 100% at night, which will prolong the time the device spends at 100%, which is not good long-term.

What do you think?

Generally the most reasonable approach is to charge it whenever you feel you might need (or want) to. Short of almost abusing the battery often or regularly (letting it overheat, consistently run down to the point the phone shuts down, etc.) the charging habits won't really make that much of a noticeable difference to outweigh the hassle of constantly worrying about and keeping track of it all.
