Excuse me if there is a simple fix to this, but I can't seem to find it.

I keep finding contacts in my address book that I did not add and that only have email details.

Most are obvious where they came from, like mailing lists I'm on etc,
Others are very random.

All must be something to do with mac mail.

I have MobileMe snycing my iPad, iPhone and MacMini, and I'm running the newest update of OSX with all current software.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance, this forum is an awesome place for problem solving!!

Clarkee.

Are you syncing your address book with Gmail contacts? Google automatically adds people that you've contacted to your address book. That's why I stopped syncing with Google.

Just my me.com addresses, Nothing to do with google.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

I've also found that iChat adds contacts to the address book when you add a new IM contact. It's quite annoying to me.

I think i have figured out what is causing the problem, but not how to solve it fully.

I have a programme called SpamSieve running to filter my junk emails, and it looks like it creates a contact in the address book if i have told it that an email it thought was spam, is actually a good email.

I have looked through the settings and can not see anything obvious how to stop this, the only option would be to stop using the programme all together.

I have emailed their customer support and im waiting for a response.

Apparently it has nothing to do with SpamSieve, as this was the reply;

"SpamSieve does not modify the address book. So it must be some other software doing this, or perhaps you are accidentally pressing the keyboard shortcut that adds the address."

So back to the drawing board to figure it out!

This is getting quiet annoying now!

Is there a setting im missing somewhere?

It seems to be adding any thing that is from a received email?

Ive stopped spam sieve from working, so it cant be that!

Okay so I've just synced my e-mail with my new iPhone and I've noticed that there is a load of e-mail addresses in my contact list. May I point out that I have a hotmail account and so things may be a little different for me but I did rectify the issue.
All that I did was go in to Settings > Mail, Contacts and Calenders > Hotmail > and then turned contacts from on to off. It seems to have affected iCloud as well so I hope that it is the same process for ever type of account, but if not I am sorry. Hope that helped!
