Okay, I wasn't going to post when this happened to me, because I just dealt with it, but now it's happened to my friend and I need to know if it's ever occurred to anyone else. Basically, I put my PowerBook to sleep by closing the lid, and the next time I opened it, all my settings were gone. Seemingly random, nothing had been installed lately, no third party hacks (ever)...

Okay, so I was like "WTF?" My address book was gone, iChat forgot it had anyone ever used it, everything. It was weird. However, I still had my address book data on my Palm organizer, and my music library was still there (though iTunes forgot it'd ever been run), so I wasn't too worried. I upgraded (Clean Install) to Panther after backing up other data and never thought about it again.

However, it just happened to my friend Sean. Same thing: put to sleep, wake up, Address Book data gone, iChat data gone, other programs forgetting settings. Only, he's running Panther (and he's not using FileVault or third party stuff or anything either).

So what's the deal? Is this some sort of systemic pattern? Put to sleep, lose stuff? It's craptastic, and rather unexpected (given the otherwise high quality of MacOS). Anyone else see this problem?
