I have recently inherited a Power Mac G5 DP 2.3 from my father-in-law. He had some random shutdown problems with it so he took it to the local dealer and had them take a look at the power supply. They could not find anything wrong with the power supply, nor could they reproduce the problem They said it is probably a peripheral causing it. Anyway, I have now taken ownership, installed Leopard, and lol and behold, I am having random shutdowns. I get the 'ApplePMU::pMU forced shutdown, cause = -122' error in the system log. I have reset the PMU. This machine does not fall within the serial numbers for the expanded recall.

Anyway, I am trying to test everything I can before I fork over the $ for new hardware. The random shutdowns were happening to me 2 to 3 times a day, but doing nothing that would indicate a cause. My daughter, however, loves to play online games on Disney Playhouse and Noggin and such. Those sites are Flash heavy sites. It will shutdown for her within a minute of playing those games, without fail. I even tested it last night with the same result. This makes me believe it is not a power supply issue, but a software issue, or a memory issue. It's not always running flash that causes it, but it certainly seems to expedite it.

Has anyone else noticed this, and if so, has anyone tracked down the problem?

Thanks!
