I've been trying to diagnose an iMac which keeps locking up. The cursor won't move and no keyboard commands are accepted (Force quite, &c). I've performed a clean install, restored the user files from a backup, then manually re-enabled services and reinstalled software.

It ran fine for about 36 hours. Performed a new Time Machine backup to a NAS. Then iCloud was enabled and was ran under a heavy load (Unigine Valley loop) along with numerous open programs and Photos database merging with iCloud. I left this going for twelve hours without a hitch. Closed all the programs and just let the iCloud/Photos merge continue.

This morning I found the computer was off. I booted it up and checked an hour later. It was locked up all over again. I'm out of ideas.

I suspect it has something to do with Photos and iCloud. When the problems started I had just enabled iCloud Photo Library. I also reconnected the NAS for Time Machine, which lost connection several months ago, and updated from 10.14.5 to 10.14.6 at the same time.

End of report

I've had something that sounds similar.

Updated my MacBook 2015 to 10.14.6 yesterday morning and it froze last night.

Updated my iMac 2015 a few days ago and it froze just now.

I wasn't doing anything unusual on either machine when they froze.

It is so unusual to have my Macs freeze. To me it looks like there may be an issue with 10.14.6.
