Hi everyone!

I recently noticed that my left B&W MM-1 speaker is playing some low volume tones when they receive audio from my iMac (Late 2012). The tones disappear whenever I mute the speakers or close the program playing the sounds or music. If for instance i pause the movie playing the tones continue... (The tones are coming from the lower part of the left speaker.) This suddenly started a few days back. I've used these about a year without any issues. I did try to connect them to my Macbook pro. The tones did not play when i used my macbook, so it seems the issue is somewhere between my iMac and the speakers. The iMac internal speakers does not play these sound.

The tones seems like some sort or random scale going up and down with some random jumps here and there.

I've tried updating the MM-1 firmware and restarting my iMac. I've also disconnected every cable and reconnected them. The tones are still there.

Have anyone else here experienced this with their speakers? And do you know how to fix this?

Same Problem

Were you able to solve this ? I am going crazy due to these scales playing up and down. I have a MacBook Pro Retina (2013).

Also same problem

I had this problem with my first (and second) pair of mm-1s, too. It started in april, about half a year after I bought the speakers. I changed them to a new set 3 weeks ago, today it started again. It's always random tones on the left speaker, never on the right.

Did anyone of you succeed to solve this problem?
The technical support of b&w just told me the last time to exchange them. I fear the next ones also make random tones...

I'm really sad, that such great and expensive speakers have this problem.
Did you find people with a similar problem or did you find any information about this matter?

I had the same problem after I upgraded my old 2009 iMac to a 2015 iMac w/5k retina display. The MM-1s worked flawlessly on the old iMac, but the left speaker had tones running in scales up and down when plugged into the new iMac.

After much googling, I found a fix. I don't know why it works, but it does.

1. Launch the "Audio MIDI Setup" app.
2. Select the MM-1 speakers on the left.
3. Turn up the volume so you can hear the tones.
3. Change the Output format from 48 kHz to 44.1 kHz.
4. Notice the tones are gone.
5. Enjoy your speakers with slightly reduced higher frequency response, but no annoying tones!
