I know that MB's max volume is really quiet, so that's not what I'm here to complain about. Out of the blue, my MB's volume randomly decreased significantly. Songs that I could hear with three bars now have to be played at seven bars to be heard. This worries me because MB's are too damn quiet to begin with, and I need all the volume I can get. I tried resetting the PRAM but that didn't work. Any suggestions?

We're dealing with two different volume controls here. Make sure that the slider in the iTunes window, and the system volume (controlled by the keyboard or on the menubar) are set correctly. I keep my iTunes slider at 100% on my MB.

OS X holds 2 volumes, one for the internal MBP speakers, and one for external (audio out jack) speakers

are you plugging in, or unplugging headphones, or speakers?
