Range on Magic Mouse (looking for decent wireless)

Since I am moving my old iMac to the upstairs office one thing I want to do is be able to surf/etc while using my elliptical. I can do the majority of my surfing with a mouse, moving it to select new links etc as needed.

However the elliptical is about five feet from the Mac (its a 24" iMac so the screen is very readable). Will the magic mouse work from afar? I haven't tried it yet but I assume the Magic Mouse will work with my old iMac (2.16 C2D gen).

If not the MM, what mouse?

Its about 30 feet, but presumably that'll be in 'ideal' conditions (i.e. no walls)
