Hi everyone. I've been running a classic WD Raptor 150 hard drive for several years now. I first had it in my PC and then I moved it over to my 1st Gen Mac Pro. My wife now has that PC and my old 74gig Raptor drive. She's running out of space on that so its a perfect time for me to upgrade my drive so she can have the 150gig Raptor. My question is this:
Will I notice a performance penalty moving from a Raptor 150 to a Caviar Black 1TB?
The Raptor 150 is obviously 10,000rpm, while the Caviar Black is only 7200. From the reviews I've seen the Caviar Black seems to be up some pretty impressive numbers, often times eclipsing the Raptor. However, the spindle speed is slower, which makes the random seek times quite a bit worse.
I used to be a more hardcore user than I am now. Most of my time is spending reading web pages, email, doing some iphoto work, occasional imovie, and from time to time, World of Warcraft, and / or a game in Bootcamp (HL2, Sins of a Solar Empire). It seems to me that the Caviar Black would be the best choice, but I just won't be able to handle any sluggishness in response time from it.
Opinions? Other suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
