Hi, how would you rate Gmail or (google mail in uk dues to name issues) I just got a account thanks to BigPrince. I think its great so what do you think.

I use it as my "on the road" email. Much better than the other "Free" alternatives available.

I like Gmail a lot. Easy to use, simple design, easy to navigate, good options, pop support (so I can use it with Apple Mail), and great storage. For a guy who keeps every single email he ever gets (aside from spam of course), it's great.

8.5/10 (hey, you asked for a rating!)

Meh.
I don't really like how it stores your email. Plus, it has MAJOR problems with spam.

By "MAJOR problems with spam." do you mean that it has trouble dealing with spam? or that every account seems to automatically get spam?

10+++

Spam? It does get alot of spam, but it goes STRAIGHT into the SPAM folder...a small price to pay for the free 2.5+ gigs of storage that you get...

Accounts seem to automatically get a lot of spam.

I noticed that I have to watch it, though, because it's automatically taken out good e-mail as spam.

Off-topic sorry but how do u set up a poll.

Use "Thread Tools" to add a poll.

I wouldn't say there is a spam problem unless spam starts piling up in my inbox as opposed to my spam folder, and that hasn't happened to me. I think it does a great job of sorting spam out. I've only had a small handful of false positives since I started using Gmail in 2004.

Took a while to get use to as it was different from Yahoo! mail. Instead of folders, there are labels and I thought the emails would "disappear" from the inbox to the "labels" but it says in the inbox with a specific label next to the email.

Overall I think it's great as capacity is constantly growing. Spam filter works great for me.

I love it. Definitely leaps and bounds over any other alternative web based email out there.

I love the conversation layout, the search, the archive and the fact that I don't seem to get hardly any spam (maybe a few a week) although I've signed up for things online. And the few spam emails I do get go straight to the spam folder, can't ask for much more than that! :D

Definitely 10/10

I've only got one spam message on my gmail ever. The trick is to protect your email address. Don't forward chain emails, post it online, etc. I have a second address that I give out online. That account receives plenty of spam.

That's great but if you use Google Talk, you've automatically given it out.

Gmail have been great for me. I use it with Apple Mail. No problems wth spam at all. I have used yahoo previously and it really doesnt compare to gmail.

I don't really like it or dislike it. The interface just isn't that friendly to me. I use it, and i especially LOVE the ability to collaborate with Google Docs, but as an email system by itself i'd say it's fair. Certainly not bad, but there's just something i can't point out that i truly don't enjoy.

I love GMail. I have it set up with Apple Mail, and it works great. I delete certain things in Mail, but I keep everything I get in my GMail online inbox. If I check my online inbox right now, I'd probably have 500+ Spam mails, but they all go right into my spam inbox. I only get one spam mail in my Apple Mail inbox about once every 2 weeks, if that. I also love having so much space online because if I go anywhere with internet I can search every e-mail I've received in the last year (since I've had GMail).

Edit: And all of this for FREE? Sure, I'll take that.

what i like about gmail is how it stores everything, including google talk chats. i could be using ichat, adium or even chatting in the web browser, and gmail will have all my chats stored away. also, when i send yahoo mail from apple's mail.app, i can't retrieve sent messages from a browser later on, but i can with gmail. so while i like gmail and yahoo both, i like gmail SO much better!

I have two gmail accounts. I have one set up with Apple's Mail, and I give that address out only to family and friends. I don't think I've ever gotten spam sent to that address (and now I've probably just jinxed myself). I have a second address that I use when I want to subscribe to a newsletter or discussion list, and I also use that when I shop online, because I find that many companies auto-add you to their mailing list once you order from them. I get a moderate amount of spam at that address, but most of it goes straight to the spam inbox. One or two spam messages sneak into the regular inbox every few weeks, but it's not a big deal at all.

I've used hotmail and yahoo in the past, and I like gmail better than either of them, at least as far as spam control is concerned.
