My iMac desktop makes a weird rattling sound for about 10 seconds every 2 minutes. Only about a year or two old. Web searches haven't given me much info or help, so I thought I'd post here. Anyone know what's going on?

Could be a fan, could be the hard drive. Depending on the sound, it could be normal or it could be a sign of trouble to come.

As a precaution, check to see if your iMac falls under the iMac 1TB Seagate Hard Drive Replacement Program and if so, get it taken care of asap.

No matter what the issue is, you do make backups. Right?

I believe bear pretty much covered the options, unless there's some small critter making a nest in there ;)

Thanks for the replies. Should I just make an appointment at the Mac store and lug it in?
