Alright, I've gone through all the hoops, I've bought a second more expensive cable, and I'm at my wit's end trying to set this damn receipt printer up for my senior project. Here a picture of the Ithaca Series 50 I rescued from a recycling pile- http://gallery.me.com/aaronbrewer/100012
heres a link to the programming manual on the transact website - http://www.transact-tech.com/products/ithaca_series50_info.html
I'm using a USB to Parallel cable from Keyspan (UP-6C). I can set it up as a raw printer, I can even send a test page to it (even though it sends it in postscript). I have no ability to print with anything like textedit or through lp in unix.
What I'd like to do is set it up as a serial interface so I can send data straight to it from processing or java. Even sending data to it from the command line would be helpful. I really don't want to have to do this on a PC, but I'm running out of options.
