I thought the latest Photos (on my 2018 MBP) could handle RAW files but it would seem not? Took RAW/JPEG stills with my drone but only the JPEGs will load up into Photos?

Hang on, I just tried importing a DNG and it appeared and was the full 24.5Mb but when I import both the JPEG and DNG only the JPEG appears. I'm confused (quite easily done at 83🥴)

Another edit to the thread, I just imported a DNG, 24.5Mb and then simply exported it back to my Desktop as a full sized jpeg and it was only 2.1Mb??

Even more confusing to me now. Just imported a JPEG into Photos - it showed as 5.1Mb but when I then exported it to my desktop it showed as 10Mb in the info?

If you to shoot photos in both RAW and JPEG and import these pics from these cameras, Photos uses the JPEG file as the original. However, you can tell it to use the RAW file as the original instead.

In the Photos app, double-click a photo to open it, then click Editin the toolbar. Choose Image > Use RAW as Original.

When you export the photo by dragging it from Photos to the Desktop or to a folder, it will be a JPEG, since RAW files aren’t intended to be viewed or shared.

If you export it by using the File > Export command, you can choose JPEG, PNG, or TIFF format.

And if you want to export the RAW file to use in another app, choose File > Export Unmodified Original for 1 Photo.
This will export the RAW file, if that’s all you have, or both files, if you have a JPEG/RAW pair. But these files won’t contain any of your edits.
