As an owner of a Razer laptop, I've been largely happy with it. Back when I bought it, I defended their support saying its improving and I think even the CEO stated they're actively trying to improve it.

I think they took several steps backwards, if this video is considered, and given some of the hoops he had to jump through, I surmise it is typical.

And this YT coincidentally just landed as well. I'm watching it now, though I was getting second hand frustration from the first YT. He does reference Just Josh's video, so I wanted to put that out there, it may be a rehash, or retelling but I like the thoroughness that Steve does

I can confirm this. I have a Razer eGPU That was DOA. It took them months to replace it, and even when they did, it was with an older model without all the features. At that point I was so worn out I just was happy I had a functioning unit. Because of that experience, I will never buy another one of their products.

Having owned a perfect a 2019 razer 15" (I7 9750H/RTX 2070), its been on my short list when ever I considered a new laptop. My major knock on that laptop was the fan noise. I was able to manage it mostly when not gaming, but in gaming it was loud. The power brick is also huge - can be a hassle when traveling.

I'm very happy to say, after seeing the problems being reported that I'll be steering clear of them.

I love their keyboards but out of principle won’t buy them. They make some good products but if their customer service is non existent then you’re SOL

I mustache you this, do you find that when companies shave off customer concerns for growing out their profits, do you find it cutting?

I was looking for a premium Windows laptop to throw Linux on but they’re all just bad. Regardless of price, it’s either a chassis issue, bad keyboard/trackpad, speakers, battery life, price, webcams, awful customer service, etc. People used to complain about Apple but you can’t get a more complete package for the price and support. Even expensive Windows PC’s are trash and the closest I got was a Lenovo X1 Carbon, which you can order with Linux, but again there were compromises and for almost $3K I don’t want that.

I returned a current gen Surface laptop cause the haptic trackpad was awful and the snapdragon processor couldn’t get out of its own way. Windows users have to be coping these days there’s just no good options.

I watched that this morning and was flabbergasted. We tested their laptops at a Razer Store and they were fine. The store had game tables in the back with a bunch of games you could play to try out their laptops. Build quality was fine. It appears that their problems are fairly recent.

How do you destroy your reputation so quickly?

I wish I could say the same for our experience with our Razer blade 15 (I7 10750h/RTX 3060) Already replaced the battery once after it was swollen and had to redo the thermal paste after it kept overheating so bad just opening a single browser tab. Less than two years later it's back to overheating and the battery doesnt even last 2 hours off the charger. Ordered a Legion 5 Gen 10 to replace it after it started shutting down randomly now.

I was tempted with newer versions, because my 2019 model has a weird keyboard setup, and the 2070 GPU is just too meager. I love their design, its very mac like with the clean lines. Their software has always been a big pile of canine excrement, but it seems to have gotten worse, where you need it to get the full power of the 50 series gpu.

I have a thinkpad, its not as sexy as the Razer, but its a solid laptop, and while the GPU is probably its weakest link, I'm happy as I have other options if I need to be gaming. Traveling with the thinkpad is so much better then the razer, thanks to the small power brick

Yea I’m fairly optimistic about this new legion 5 I ordered. It’s lighter than her old Razer, fairly thin with an AMD Ryzen 7 260 cpu, OLED display with an RTX 5060. Reviews of it have been overall very positive with good battery life. So fingers crossed this works out a lot better for her.

I’ve had a few different Lenovo laptops the last couple years with no issues. Gave one to my sister that she still uses, my daughter has an ideapad that’s been flawless so far as well.

It sucks because as you said, the Razer laptops look and feel great and close to a MacBook but the quality has not been there, their support and warranty sucks as well and you pay such a huge premium for them.

The same equivalent Razer laptop in Canada to the legion I ordered is about $3k. I paid $1500 for this legion.

My 2020 4k 15" Razor laptop that I imported to Malaysia from US had a faulty rgb KB, maybe i got lucky and got great service via a US rep who monitored the forums, 3 msgs later I had a pre paid DHL sticker and it was shipped to Singapore for repairs and was returned in a week to KL

My little Razor book 2022 however screen blacked out so I thought being clever as out of warranty, a friend who lives in Singapore but works in Malaysia took it home. 2 years later we have given up trying to get the form to send it in for out of warranty repair.

It's just a joke as no response or reply to any of the various channels directly or via their website.

Razer dropped all support for their keyboards and mices for macOS. We were hundreds to protest. Now they try to come back with a beta Synapse software for their latest devices only. Is it a joke ?
