iPod Re-Attach iPod to Mac w/o unplugging/replugging cable?

Sometimes I eject my iPod because all I want to do is charge it, but then I want to launch iTunes later and maybe add some songs and the only way I've figured out how to do this is to unhook the connection at the iPod and re-connect it. Is this the only way?
