I have a 15" MacBook Pro, whose optical drive no longer works, and whose contents I've now erased. I'd like to re-install its Snow Leopard system using the Install DVD that originally came with it. I was hoping to be able to use my new 13" (running Lion) with the two connected via firewire, but double-clicking on the install app on the 13" gave me:

"You can't use this version of the application Install Mac OS X.app with this version of Mac OS X".

I was hoping to be given the option of choosing a target disk for the install but I can't currently see a way to make that happen. Would anyone have any ideas for how I could use the optical drive on my 13" with the install DVD of the 15" to re-install the system on the latter?

Thanks in advance for any ideas that could help me out.
