Apple have informed me that if I upgrade to 10.6 from 10.5 and at some stage in the future I wanted to re-install 10.6, I would first have to re-install 10.5 and then upgrade again to 10.6.

Is that honestly correct? I only thought Microsoft did stuff like that!

I think that has been proven false here on the boards. People have confirmed that you can install 10.6 on a clean hard drive, nothing on it...

How should we know? We don't have it yet....

I read somewhere possibly on apples site that if you reinstall 10.6.0 on say 10.6.1 system then it will not over write the newer files, saving you from having to reapply the updates leaving you still on say 10.6.1

I asked the question this morning with Apple's live help a few minutes ago and was categorically told that in order to re-install 10.6 you must first re-install 10.5

I admit it does not sound right to me.

Apple will naturally tow the official line, for most people Leopard will be the $29 upgrade, so they'll tell you that you need Leopard first.

...that doesn't mean it's really the case though.

If that is true, this will put me off upgrading my mac.

It's a news story. We'll know definitively tomorrow. For now, Mossberg's hinted strongly.
