iPod touch re-jailbreak?

Been having some performance issues with my ipod 4g running 5.0.1. I did an untethereed jailbreak the day it came out in December and haven't updated it since and wondered if that might be the problem. Also, if i do have to re-jailbreak it, do i HAVE to restore first or am i able to just plug in, and jailbreak?

download latest redsn0w, use that and UNCHECK all the option, this way it will just run the JB over it, if these issues occur do full restore and rejb
