So my Mac has started acting up and I need to reinstall OSX (10.9.5) and all my apps. Time consuming and frustrating, but doable.
Now, my Mac Pro consists of an SSD for OSX and the apps while the users are on a separate hard drive. As far as I remember, when I set up the computer for the first time I created all the users on the SSD then copied all those home folders (except the one I was logged in as at the time) over to the separate hard drive.
Finally I opened the "Users & groups" System preference , right clicked on one user at a time ("Advanced options...") where I could change the path of the home directory.
When I had this working I could delete the home folders on the SSD, which of course were no longer in use.
But this time the home folders on the hard drive are full with files etc. so is it sufficient to just change the path to the home folder, or would I have to create a new user from scratch and copy it over to the hard drive as I initially did, then copy all my files, settings etc. over?
I'm concerned about the more advanced stuff which I haven't touched like UUID, User ID etc. if I just change the path, but then again I'm concerned I might miss a file or folder if I have to create the users from scratch then copy all the files and settings over.
