I had to unpair my watch from my 10 and pair to the new 12P. So I decided to restore from backup but the most recent backup available was from March of 2020! I thought my watch was backing up regularly. Wondering if anyone else has this issue. How do I get a more recent backup? I guess I can start over and set up as new but I had it set up as I like it and I hate to go through all that again.

Any thoughts on solving would be welcome. Thanks.

There are a number of posts about this with people having the same problem, I’m one of them. Try setting your watch up as new for a second time and you might find that the most recent backup is now there. That’s how it was for me and I think a few others as well. The software for this is just utter crap unfortunately.

I had this problem. This issue I had was my watch had WatchOS 7.01 installed on it and my backups were 7.0.2 so when I went to install the most recent backup they weren’t showing up. An hour or so later 7.0.2 showed up as an update so once I updated I unpaired and went to restore and there were my most recent backups. Hope your issue is as simple as this.

I had the same issue a few weeks back. Spent $800 on a new watch to treat myself and then wasted most of the day scratching my head. I figured it out in the end, but it was a crappy new product experience.

Why can’t the pairing process see there’s a backup available for a newer os version and then do what needs to be done?

Apple?

Right. That sucks. It’s to much to ask to just show them all. All you need to do is put a message next to the backup that says “please update your watch to install this backup”.
