Hello all,
I just received a Pismo (400 Mhz, 512 MB, 20 GB HD) and have two questions.
First, when I started the unit for the first time it booted Tiger fine, and faster than I was expecting, yet shortly after getting to the desktop the screen/graphics went "crazy" (wavy lines, shifting screen, etc.) when I sat the laptop down, such as an my lap. My initial thought was that the graphic card may have become unseeded or damaged in shipping. However, for whatever reason I happened to take out and then replace the rechargeable battery, and the screen issue(s) went away. Is this normal? Can a battery that is not inserted correctly do this? I was told by the seller that the battery needs to be replaced, even though I see four green lights lit on the module, yet it appears to drain fast.
Second, I noticed that the screen gets progressively brighter/a bit washed out as one looks from top to the bottom. I have read that other Pismo owners have noted some minor viewing issues with the Pismo screen. Is this what they were talking about?
Nevertheless, even with these questions I have to say that my orginal impression of the Pismo is that it is an incredible machine! I had expected a G3 powerbook to run 10.4.4 rather slowly, especially since my tower is a dual 2.3 GHz G5 with 1.5 GB RAM. Yet opening and using MS Office, including PowerPoint, as well as other operations seemed to run just fine! I even tried several DVD's while runnning 10.4.4 (TRON, King of the Hill, Return of the Jedi, and Two Towers) and they all autostared and played fine! If I had to nitpick I might mention that the graphics in TRON were a bit grainy/streaked, but what can you ask for? All-in-all I was most impressed!
Perhaps the only thing was that the construction of the unit seems a litle less sturdy than I would like (perhaps te creaking sounds are a little unnerving), but I am still quite impressed!
I can only imagine what the G4 upgrade must be like on a machine like this!
Thank you all for your help!!!
Always,
Sam
