Okay, at one point I resized all of my desktop icons so that they were ballooned out of all proportion - the Macintosh HD icon, for example, is ridiculously large.

For the life of me I can't figure out how I did this?

I've checked in System Preferences about twenty times now, and I can't find anything that will allow me to resize the icons. I can resize the dock icons, but not the desktop icons?

Click, the desktop, so that 'Finder' is shown next to the Apple menu.

Click View -> Show View Options.

In your Finder, look under View in the Menu Bar and select 'View Options' – there's a slider in there that'll let you resize your icons to something a little less daft.

Beat you! Na-Na, Na-Na, Na-Na! :p

Thank god for the internet.

That was driving me crazy. I would never have figured that out!

my dock disappeared and I saw it go away...is there a keystroke to bring it back up? lol, just kidding
