I am new to this. Is it possible to unlock a 3GS phone with 4.3.1 and firmware 05.16.02. It is jailbroken but not unlocked.

not possible without ipad baseband 6.15 try a search and read up on it..

Assume it will happen to your phone when you put the ipad baseband on your phone. That is what we heard from lot of people with 06.15 baseband on their phone as well as the warning from dev team previously.

yes it is a risk you have to decide if it's worth it. if you want to unlock! Sorry but baseband 05.16.02 us unsupported and nobody knows if or when it will. I'm betting it won't be.
