Re-using Apple Cinema 24" LED screen - tip

I have an existing Apple screen with mini display port and wanted to use with a new MBP 13". Lots of forums said you can't, Apple said you can't. But found a thread that suggested the Dell dock WD15 - it worked, and also gives me power, ethernet, and a few more USB ports.
