My current situation is that ATT did not reverse my upgrade when I bought an iPhone 3G in August 2008 and then returned it. Therefore it is saying I am not eligible to receive the iPhone 3GS at $200. Neither ATT and Apple can reverse it. They have made me jump through hoops with no results whatsoever.

However, I have 3 lines total on the family plan, both my parents have an iPhone 1G (I have a RAZR), and they are both eligible for the iPhone 3GS upgrade. My plan is to upgrade one of theirs to the iPhone 3GS, have ATT swap the phone numbers, and then reactivate the iPhone 1G again on their own phone number. My questions are:

1. Will their rate be the same?
2. Will they continue to receive the originally included 200 text messages

the 3G rate is 10$ more than the 2G rate - you can just use one of their upgrades if you are on the same plan too (or at least i have done it before)

That is not what I was asking, Michael. This is what I want to do:

Stage 1:
Line 1 - My Razr
Line 2 - Parent's iPhone 1G

Stage 2:
Line 1 - My Razr
Line 2 - iPhone 3GS

At this point, I would have ATT swap the phone numbers on line 1 and 2.
Stage 3:
Line 1 - iPhone 3GS
Line 2 - My Razr

Then I would have my parent reactivate the iPhone 1G on Line 2
Stage 4:
Line 1 - iPhone 3GS
Line 2 - Parent's iPhone 1G

After completing this process, will my parent continue to receive the $20 a month rate with 200 free text messages?

What's the problem with having whoever is eligible upgrade to the 3GS, then just swapping the SIMs around accordingly?
