Read a Mac formatted drive on PC (help)

My MBP was stolen, no sign of it on "find my Mac" I have an external drive with some files I need very much to access. But all I have is my old windows 7 PC until I can afford a new Mac.

Is there a way to read the Mac OS formatted drive on my PC?

I've done a google search, and there are some programs out there, but i'm not sure if they are a scam or what.

Any help would be very appreciated.
